6/17 Late Inning Run Is Enough

The Bandits traveled to Litchfield Friday to play a rescheduled game under the lights. On a dark and luminous night hits and runs were hard to come by. Strong pitching performances held both offenses in check early on. The Bandits threatened in the 6th inning loading the bases with zero outs. A ground out double play back to the pitcher left guys on second and third with two outs. An attempted steal of home by Andrew Buchholz was ruled out on a close play at the plate ending the threat. The lone run in the game came in the top of the 9th inning. Bergman started the inning by reaching on an error. After a ground out and strike out, David McCoy walked and Kyle Christen reached on an infield single loading the bases with two outs. Brady Cobb, who entered the game in the eighth inning, got a base hit to center scoring Bergman to make the game 1-0 Bandits in the 9th. That was all Bergman and the Bandits needed as they shutout the Blues. The Bandits were led offensively by Andrew Buchholz and Kyle Christen who were both 2-4. Bergman scattered six hits and pitched his way out of trouble in the 5th inning when Litchfield loaded the bases. He threw a complete game shutout striking out 12.

5/1 Bandits Open Season With a Win

Sauk Rapids- On a day that felt more like winter then the beginning of spring, the Becker Bandits traveled to Sauk Rapids to open the season against the Jimmys. The Bandits struck early in the game scoring 2 runs in the top of the 3rd inning. They added another in the 5th to make it 3-0. Starting pitcher Tony Bergman was dialed in from the start and took a no hitter into the 6th inning. The Jimmys broke up the no hitter with a single but no damage was done. Becker added another run in the 7th inning but was quickly matched by the Jimmys making the score 4-1. Picking up right where they left off, the Bandits tacked on 4 more runs in the top of the 8th giving them all they needed for an opening day victory 8-1. Andrew Buchholz led the Bandits going 3-4 with a double. Aaron Lund pitched the last 2 innings in relief.

4/30 Postponed Due to Rain

BECKER — The Becker Bandits were scheduled to start Lakewood League play with a home opener against the Freeport Black Sox on April 30 at 1:30 PM. The game has been postponed and will be played at a later date.

7/25 Bandits Force Game Three

BECKER — The Becker Bandits knocked off the top-seeded Freeport Black Sox 8-7 Sunday in a Lakewood League National Divison playoff game. Freeport led 7-2 through 51/2 innings. Becker score five runs in the sixth to tie it and got the winning run in the seventh. Kyle Christen led off with a single and eventually came around and scored on Andrew Buchholz's fielder's choice. Eric Walberg, Buchholz and Tony Bergman all had two hits for Becker. Bergman was the winning pitcher, going the distance. Chad Hess and Troy Frieler each had two hits with a double for the Black Sox. Losing pitcher was Nate Winter. Becker plays Freeport at a site and a date to be determined sometime this week.(Sctimes.com)

7/21 Lakewood League American Division Playoffs

The Becker Bandits wrapped up the season on Sunday as they ran the gauntlet last weekend playing the National Division leader Sartell Muskies, and last years Class C State Champion St. Cloud Ice. The Bandits finished the season with a 4-15 record and now draw top seed Freeport in the first round, best of 3 series. The first game will be played at Freeport with the second game being played at Becker. If a third game is needed it will be played at Freeport as they are the higher seed.

7/9 Defensive Miscues Cost The Bandits

An unusual Monday evening game that was rescheduled due to weather; the Bandits took on Granite City in an important positional game in the American Division. Becker got on the board early in the third inning as Jeremy Lies drove home Jon Bodeker. The Bandits scored two more runs in the fifth inning as Lies again scored Bodeker on a sac fly. Becker was in the driver's seat as they took a 3-0 lead into the 7th inning. A defensive implosion led to 5 Bandit errors. When the dust settled they were down 8-3. The bats fell silent for the Bandits as they were unable to score in the 8th and 9th. Jeremy Lies led the Bandits with 2 hits and 2 RBI.

6/27 Let's Play Two

The Becker Bandits were on the road for a double header against the Clear Lake Lakers. Tony Bergman started the game for the Bandits on the mound. The Lakers struck early with a run in the first inning taking the lead 1-0. It didn't take long for the Bandits to answer as Brady Cobb drew a walk and scored on a double by Danny Bodecker to tie the game at 1-1. Both pitchers started to settle in throwing scoreless inning after inning. It wasn't until the sixth inning that Kyle Christen lead off with a triple and scored on a single by Tony Bergman, giving the Bandits a 2-1 lead. That was all Bergman needed as he pitched another solid four innings finishing with 6 strikeouts.

Game two started out rough for the Bandits. Defensive miscues and walks added up early as Clear Lake jumped to a 2-0 lead after one. Becker was stymied offensively only managing 2 hits in the game and falling 4-0 to earn a split on the day.

5/19 Becker Wins On The Road

The Bandits were on the road for a Wednesday night game against the Sartell Stone Poneys. Kyle Christen started on the mound for the Bandits and was able to hold the Stone Poneys scoreless through the second inning. Sartell was able to take the lead in the bottom of the third as a double by Sartell scored a run to make it 1-0. It didn't take long for the Bandits to start scoring runs soon after. Becker put the ball in play and forced the Stone Poneys to make plays. The Bandits took advantage of some defensive miscues and took the lead 3-1 after 5. Christen had a solid pitching performance striking out 5 through the fifth to get the win as Aaron Lund entered in the sixth inning. The Bandits scored again in the seventh to make the score 4-1. Lund allowed one run in the eighth inning to make the score 4-2. He was lights out in the ninth striking out the side giving him 7 strikeouts. The Bandits were led offensively by Andrew Buchholz who finished the game 3-4.

5/16 Bandits Open The Season At Home With A Win

The Becker Bandits first home game of the season against Sauk Centre was a good one. Tony Bergman took the mound for the Bandits and quickly set the tone as he started the game with a 3 up 3 down top of the first. Becker had a slow start at the plate also as they were held scoreless for the first two innings. After being hit in the hand while batting, Bergman did his best to continue pitching. He pitched a scoreless second and third. Kyle Christen put the Bandits on top in the bottom of the third with a solo homerun. A steady pitching performance from Bergman held the Titans in check through four. Bergman was lifted in the fifth and was replaced by Justin Wennerberg. The Titans were finally able to get some runs as they scored two in the top of the fifth inning giving them the lead 2-1. In the bottom of the eighth Aaron Lund led off with a double to right followed by a walk by Christen. Max Fluck tried to move the runners up with a bunt but a good defensive play by Sauk Centre forced the runner out at third. Eric Walberg singled down the first base line scoring Christen to tie the game at 2. Wennerberg had a sacrifice to the first basemen which scored Fluck for the go ahead run. Wennerberg pitched a solid ninth inning to get the win.

5/8 Opening Day

On a crisp windy day in Freeport the season opener for the Bandits was full of firsts. It was the first game of the season; it was also the first game under new management. For some, it was the first time in a Bandits uniform. Hits were hard to come by as a pitching duel quickly broke out. Becker only sent 3 men to the plate to lead off the first and starting pitcher Tony Bergman started the season off right pitching a scoreless first. Becker managed to out hit Freeport but was unable to score. Becker only managed 2 players in scoring position with their best chance in the top of the ninth as runners were on first and third with two outs. The game was about pitching and defense. Becker played flawless defensive baseball and had strong pitching performances but fell short in the runs column.

3/13 Opening Day Is Just Around The Corner

May 8th marks the opening day of Bandits baseball for 2010. There have been some new and exciting changes for the Bandits in the off season. The first change for the Bandits is welcoming a new coaching staff. Mike Walberg will be the new head coach of the Bandits in 2010. He will be assisted by Tim Buchholz. The second change is Orthopedic Ice moving up to B by winning the state tournament in 2009. A new team has also been approved to the Lakewood League. The Sartell Stone Poneys will be joining the Lakewood League in 2010. Stay tuned for more information on how the league will be divided with the changes. 7/26 Round 2 Muskies And Bandits

The hot bats continued for the Bandits as they hosted the Muskies in game 2 of the best of 3 series. The Muskies charged out of the gates by putting up 2 runs in the top of the first again with a homerun. Becker was quick to answer in the bottom half as they nearly batted around sending 8 men to the plate. The 5 and 6 hitters Bergman and Christen continued to stay hot as they both had RBI singles tying the game 2-2. Sartell wasn't finished scoring as they tacked on 2 more in the 3rd inning and led the game 4-2. Becker started struggling at the plate managing only 1 hit in the next four innings. The Muskies plated an insurance run in the top of the ninth making the score 5-2. However, Becker wasn't finished but like the last game only managed to score 1 run giving the series to the Muskies with a final score of 5-3. Jeremy Lies led the Bandits with 3 hits. Tony Bergman pitched a complete game striking out 8.

7/25 Bandits Battle Muskies In First Round Lakewood League Action

The Bandits knew going into the playoffs without a win in the regular season was going to be tough, but coming off a few strong games defensively and offensively they were feeling pretty good. Becker traveled to Sartell on Saturday and brought their bats with them. The first inning the Bandits sent the first six batters to the plate and took the field with a 1-0 lead. Sartell was quick to answer and tied the game in the bottom of the first. The Bandits continued to hit the ball hard all game out hitting the Muskies. As Becker continued to score runs Sartell was quick to answer. The Bandits were victimized by the long ball giving up 3 homeruns which accounted for 4 of the Muskies runs. Becker continued to battle as they scored 2 runs in the seventh inning making it 10-7 Muskies. Becker had the bases loaded in the top of 9 but could only score one run to make the final 10-8. Justin Wennerberg led the Bandits offensively going 3-4 with 3 doubles, 2 walks, and 5 RBI. Jeremy Lies had 3 singles, Tony Bergman had a double and a single, and Kyle Christen had a pair of singles and an RBI. Wennerberg pitched a strong game and went 6 innings for the loss.

7/20 Regular Season In The Rearview Mirror

A long season of hard fought battles and heartache has come to an end for the Becker Bandits. Trying to find a lucky bounce or a game changing break has been like finding a needle in a haystack. The Bandits are optimistic however, with every team making the Lakewood League Playoffs they know they have their work cut out for them. Becker is seeded 6th in the playoffs and will play a best of 3 series against the top seeded Sartell Muskies. The first game will be at Champion Field in Sartell on Saturday July 25 at 1:30PM. The second game of the series will be at the Becker Athletic Complex on Sunday July 26 at 1:30 PM. If a third game is needed, it will be played on Tuesday July 28 at Champion Field in Sartell at 7:30 PM. The Bandits are coming off a few well played games that have been decided by 1 run and their bats have begun to come alive, they look to play spoiler this weekend and continue their season.

7/19 Regular Season Coming to an End

SAUK RAPIDS- Today marks the last day of the regular season for the Bandits. Becker is still looking for a league win this season and some momentum going into the first round of the playoffs against Sartell. The Bandits wrap up the season with a rescheduled game against Sauk Rapids Jimmy's that was postponed because of rain on 4/26.

7/12 Bandits Just Can't Get That First Win

BECKER- Another beautiful day for baseball and the Bandits came to play. The Saints jumped out to an early lead in the first inning when Brent Schloe doubled and scored on a single by Luke Schumer. The Bandits struggled early at the plate as they have done all year putting up 3 hits in the first four innings. The Saints managed to tack on a few more runs in the second inning. By the fifth inning, the Saints had all the runs they would need as the battling Bandit's put up 2 runs in the fifth and had a late rally in the eighth inning and the ninth putting up a run in each. The Bandits had a strong pitching performance by Tony Bergman who threw a complete game. Becker was led at the plate by Andrew Buchholz who went 3-4 with a triple.

7/1 Bandits Shutout

ST. JOE - The Bandit's bats fell silent on Wednesday night only mustering up 3 hits. The Saints played small ball when needed to manufacturer runs along with timely hitting to shutout Becker 8-0. The Bandits were led offensively by Kyle Christen who went 2 for 3.

6/28 Becker Swept At Home

BECKER - A great day for a double header which paired two teams that know each other well. In the first game, Clear Lake jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. It was 6-0 going into the seventh inning stretch as Clear Lake sat comfortably. The bats came alive for the Bandits in the 8th inning putting 3 across. Singles by Ben Buchholz and Dalton Peterson started what hoped to be a comeback. Walberg and Bergman both drove in runs in the 8th but that was all Becker could conjure up dropping the first game 6-3.
Game 2 had a different feel to it for Becker. They picked up right where they left off in the first game. Danny Bodeker and Andrew Buchholz had back to back singles to lead off the first as Becker played host. Jeremy Lies hit a double to score Bodeker. Eric Walberg drove in the next run. In the third inning Clear Lake came alive as Kyle Sytsma put one over the fence for a 3 run homer. Clear Lake took the second game 7-3, sweeping the Bandits.

6/8 Becker Falls To Sauk Centre

BECKER - Chris Doege went 3-for-4 with a home run, double and six RBI and also got the win on the mound in the Titans' six-inning win. Doege struck out five and gave up two earned runs in six innings of work. Tony Bergman took the loss.Also for Sauk Centre (4-4), Andrew Rousslange had a home run and double, Marcus Bromenshenkel went 2-for-2 with three RBI and Brian Beuning went 2-for-4 with three runs. Sauk Centre scored six runs each in the fourth and sixth innings. Sauk Centre 15, Becker 4 (sctimes.com)

6/1 Grays Top Becker In Extra Inning Pitcher's Duel

ST. CLOUD - Nick Hengel's bloop single fell over the left side of the infield and scored Phil Imholte to grant the Grays a walk-off win in the 11th inning at Dick Putz Field. Imholte scored both Granite City runs and went 3-for-6 in a pitcher's duel. He picked up the win in relief by throwing a scoreless 11th inning. Starter Collin Stinogel went the first 10 innings and allowed just two hits and an unearned run for the Grays.(sctimes.com) Kyle Christen pitched the first seven innings allowing a first inning run. Tony Bergman entered in the 8th inning. Jeremy Lies led Becker with a double.

5/31 Cyclones Blank Bandits

SAUK RAPIDS - Bryce Gapinski and David Kroger combined to shutout the Bandits. Gapinski struck out 11 and threw five innings of hitless ball. Kroger, fresh off his Sauk Rapids High School season, went the final three and allowed the lone Becker hit but struck out six. Scott Lochner led the 19-hit Cyclones attack going 2-for-4 with a two-run homer.

5/23 Sartell Takes Another

SARTELL - Tim Burns hit a two-run homer in the second inning to help the Muskies roll past the Bandits. Travis Weaver threw a complete-game four-hitter and struck out six to earn the win. Kyle Christen drove in the Becker run with a single in the fourth. Sartell 8, Becker 1(sctimes.com)

5/17 Sartell Holds On For Win

BECKER - Jake Sweeter hit a two-run single in the sixth inning to give Sartell a 2-1 Lakewood League win over Becker Saturday. Sartell is 2-1 in the Lakewood League, 5-2 overall. Steven Fish gave up five hits and one run, striking out nine en route to the victory. Becker's Eric Walberg had Becker's lone RBI with a double. Sartell 2, Becker 1 (sctimes.com)
